Digitisation of the historical photograph collection at the Georg Kolbe Museum

2014–2015

1/1 Ludwig Schnorr von Carolsfeld, Aufblickende, 1920, silver gelatine print, Georg Kolbe Museum.

Inventory, scholarly cataloguing and digitisation of historical photographs of works from the estate of Georg Kolbe

Georg Kolbe made a concerted effort from an early stage to document his body of work by having his art comprehensively photographed. Some of these works are now considered lost or were destroyed during the war, meaning that the 2,300 historical photographs are the only remaining sources. For this reason, Kolbe’s collection of photographs goes far beyond the usual museum practice of documenting its own collection items.

The catalogued records can be found here in our online collection and here in the DDB.
